I'm working on building a 22lr to use in the plinker plus and rifle competitions. I'm curious as to a few of the rules and need a little bit of clarification. Does the scope power limit apply to the target class also or just the plinker class? Are there any specific rules I need to be aware of or build around in order to be able to use the same gun in both Plinker plus and Rifle matches? I'm new to the competition shooting and need any advice I can get. Thanks.

Heath I think the scope power in the plinker class is limited to 12x or a scope that can be adjusted to 12x. The most common gun that you will see is the 10/22. As far as target class goes I don't think that their is a limit on the scope but there could be. I think that the most popular gun at our range is the Kimber 82G. I think I have a set of the rules that they started with. If I can find them I will mail you a copy. They also use a price limit. Larry Burchfield

I'm starting with a Ruger 10/22-T but after a few modifications I'm well over the $500 limit for the plinker class, but trying to keep in under the $1,000 max for the target class. The few ruels shown on the website are the only real guidelines I have to go off of. What power of scope is everyone else generally using?

Heath, buy the most powerful scope you can, you can always dial it back. It's nice to have the extra power to zoom in to see those small little holes in paper at 50 yards. I myself just finished my rifle build with a Simmons 6-24 power mil- dot scope.
In fact, if you can, come out tomorrow to get an idea of what people are using.
